What does an electrician do?
It may sound obvious what an electrician does, but there’s a lot more to our work than you might think. Our work is highly technical, specialist and requires very specific training. We always advise our customers never to attempt electrical work yourself if you don’t know what you are doing. It’s much better to leave it to the experts. So, with that in mind, this post will introduce you to our work on residential, commercial and industrial projects.
Electricians take care of all the wiring in your home, business or industrial facility that carries power to make your devices, appliances and equipment work. We not only install wiring systems, but we maintain them too and when things go wrong, diagnose, fault find and fix any issues, making systems safe for use. We work in line with strict industry standards, maintain very high levels of safety and ensure that all of our work is fully compliant with building regulations.
Depending on the nature of the projects we work on, the actual project work that we carry out is varied and includes:
- Residential wiring – The installation, maintenance and repair of electrics in your home
- Commercial wiring – Ensuring that electrical systems in businesses are properly installed and maintained
- Industrial wiring – This is where our work becomes even more complex as we have to wire huge plants, factories and warehouses, ensuring that they have a constant flow of electricity to power production lines and operations.
Our work also involves:
- Reading and interpreting blueprints to learn where circuits, consumer units, outlets and electrical components need to be placed or found
- Carefully planning the layout of commercial, domestic and industrial electrical systems, making sure that the wiring systems are safe and fit for purpose
- Installing telephone systems for businesses as well as electrical systems to support computing, security and fire alarms
- Keeping up to date with building regulations and the latest standards released by our regulatory body
- Finding and replacing faulty wiring or wiring that could present a safety hazard
Most of the work that we undertake is either installation or maintenance. While installation is very important, maintenance of electrics is too. It is essential that we carry out regular checks of wiring to make sure that it is safe to use.
We often undertake routine electrical inspections, maintenance checks and periodic testing, issuing certificates to confirm that electrical systems are safe. We can do this for businesses, industrial premises or even homes. Inspections are a legal requirement for landlords who rent their properties to tenants.
If you think your electrics are in need of an inspection or you would like to book in a consultation, please contact our team.
